Blacking Out

So it was a little over two weeks ago that this blog suddenly went blooey, wiping out every post I’d entered since we opened the doors back in May.

My intrepid webmaster managed to get enough of it back online for me to enter my thoughts on the late John Garcia, but before any other repairs could be made, along came a frigid blast

that brought down so many huge old trees that you literally couldn’t see my house from the street. As it developed, you couldn’t see much of the house from inside, either; the trees brought down the power lines, and we were plunged into the worst blackout in the history of the state.

Yep, darkness fell and it couldn’t get up.

For a while it was an adventure, living like the pioneers and all that. And we did at least have a gas stove and water heater (eat your hearts out, pioneers), so there was a little heat in the kitchen and the opportunity to bathe without joining the loyal – if barking mad – order of Polar Bears.

But there were also kids in the house and no TV. Or video games. Or computer. Or, for that matter, all that much light to read by, no matter how many candles we burned or battery-powered lanterns we managed to scare up. We were sans electricity for eight days, and let’s just say that the power didn’t come back any too soon.

But I’m pleased to report that with the restoration of power all is bright and cheery in our Edisonian utopia, and this blog is even back in business. One of these days we’ll even have the archive restored.

Thanks for checking in and come back soon.
